What may have seemed like science fiction is quickly becoming a reality – both in regard to the shortage of water in California and the capabilities of artificial intelligence.
Developed by IBM, the artificial intelligence known as Watson operates differently than most computers. It actually thinks – something IBM calls “cognitive computing.” You may remember Watson as a competitor on Jeopardy a while back, but rest assured we’ll probably see a lot more of him in the near future as robotics and artificial intelligence becomes embedded in our lives.
For now, Watson is tasked to investigate the water crisis. Scientists hopes Watson will be able to identify patterns in water levels and usage, and suggest solutions.
